Achievements were something we always had planned, but originally they were much more traditional. We knew we’d make them fun, probably mostly inside jokes or at least have some way that unlocking one would make the player smile, but after some thought, we realized a greater potential for them.
CRDTech
Achievements in Pixel Noir, when unlocked, show up as trading cards. These cards are not just trophies to declare your achievements in game however. Each card will give in game rewards like armor, weapons, special abilities, or even hidden party members! The card will then become available to be used in the CRDTech mini game in Pixel Noir!
DID YOU TRY TURNING IT OFF AND ON AGAIN?
CRDTech has players battling on a four by three grid. Players each choose a five card hand from their collection before randomly laying out four blocks on the field. After flipping a coin to see who goes first, the battle begins!
Players take turns placing cards on the field one at a time. Each card has three parts:
As soon as a card hits the field, their ability triggers, unless the card states otherwise. Some of them, like Maximo’s Inkwall Splash, are standard deployable Defensive bonuses. Others, as Stephen on our team would tell you, can cause absolute chaos. Why ask Stephen? His card randomly changes the block positions. If a newly moved block were to land on a space where a player has a card already, the card is covered and is out of the game.
Cards attack from their placed position after their ability goes off, capturing any card that is weaker than it. To win a match, you have to have majority ownership of the cards on the field. Stephen’s card can literally make or break a match and it’s an absolute blast to drop as a wildcard on an opponent’s head.
We have a lot planned for CRDTech. By the launch of Pixel Noir, we will have equipment that can be attached to cards as well as new battlefield variations to spice things up. Equipment could change the way you attack or modify a cards ability while new battlefields could contain moving tiles or different block variations!
In Pixel Noir you will see a card set based around the SWDTech team alongside of a card set made for Pixel Noir that is filled with seedy characters! We are hoping to have an expansion set made just for backers on Kickstarter, where the in game reward for having the card is making that backer into a summon in Pixel Noir! So, not only are you in the card game, but you can also be summoned by any player who earns that card in game. HOW COOL IS THAT!
Using more cards from one set can yield passive bonuses (we are calling them “expansion passives”) to help create a broader strategy for people as more cards are created. We are even hoping to make expansions for future games we come out with to keep CRDTech around as an ever growing collectible game for fans!

- A Special Ability
- Attack (ATK) and Defense (DEF) Rating
- A series of attack directions. Filled in triangles denote the card can attack in that direction while empty triangles denote that the card is unable to attack in that direction.
